BIOGRAPHY Back by popular demand, Tara Veneruso moderated and taught the Digital Seminars for IFP Los Angeles and DV Filmmaking Series at The Beverly Hills Theater. BIOGRAPHY A graduate of NYU, Tara Veneruso began her directing career with the award-winning documentary Janis Joplin Slept Here (1994). Many films and music videos have followed, screening at film festivals and museums around the world. She has edited MTV/VH-1 top-ten music videos and two documentaries for New Line Cinema’s The Lord of The Rings: Two Towers Special Extended DVD edition. Fueling her interest in digital features and emerging technologies, Tara served as a consultant for Next Wave Films, a company of The Independent Film Channel, on films including Joe Carnahan's Blood, Guts, Bullets & Octane, Christopher Nolan's (director of Memento) first feature Following, and the Academy Award nominated Genghis Blues . Tara currently directs in Los Angeles including music videos and documentaries for bands including Spoon, Fastball, Rufus Wainwright, Mojave 3, and The Idaho Falls. Tara’s short film Sidewalkers, distributed by Warner Bros. Home Video, was an official selection at film festivals including Edinburgh International, Gen Art, and Hampton International Film Festival. Veneruso has directed projects specifically designed for emerging technologies since 1997 including webseries such as Chemical Generation, Austin, 9 Boyfriends, and The Villa Elaine. Tara serves year-round as an expert on digital filmmaking for panels, film schools, and festivals including Sundance, Los Angeles Independent Film Festival, SXSW, AFI Film Festival, and internationally at the Ireland Film Centre, German Digitale, and Seoul, South Korea. Topics have included the digital revolution, filmmaking for the Internet, micro-budget films (financing and post-production), documentaries, and securing music rights. She has taught courses at UCLA EXT. on DV filmmaking with Team Next Wave and co-written articles for Filmmaker, Sight and Sound, Film Ireland, IndieWire, and contributed to Scientific American Magazine. In addition to her film work, Veneruso is a painter and has had exhibitions in Los Angeles and Austin, Texas since 1994.
